What is the difference between the types of overlays?

The terms standard overlay, full overlay, and inset refer to how cabinet doors and drawers are positioned relative to the cabinet frame. Here's a breakdown of the differences:

🔹 Standard Overlay (Traditional Overlay)

• Description: The cabinet doors partially cover the face frame, leaving a visible gap (about 1 to 1.5 inches) between doors and drawers.

• Appearance: More traditional or classic look; you can see the cabinet frame around the doors.

• Cost: Generally the most affordable option.

• Hinges: Usually exposed or partially concealed.

🔹 Full Overlay

• Description: The doors and drawers almost completely cover the face frame, leaving a very narrow gap (about 1/4 inch or less).

• Appearance: Sleek and more modern, with minimal visible frame.

• Cost: Slightly more expensive than standard overlay due to precise manufacturing.

• Hinges: Typically concealed for a cleaner look.

🔹 Inset

• Description: Doors and drawers are set inside the cabinet frame, so they sit flush with the face of the cabinet.

• Appearance: Very high-end and custom; gives a clean, furniture-like appearance.

• Cost: Most expensive due to the precision and craftsmanship required.

• Hinges: Can be concealed or exposed (decorative).
